Summary: Recently, at the 2nd Nuclear Technology Application Industry Chain Co-chain Action Conference, the China Isotope and Radiation Industry Association, together with CNNC and other core forces in the industrial chain, released China's first "Nuclear Technology Application Industry Chain Strengthening Action Plan". Nuclear technology, also known as isotope and radiation technology, is a high-tech industry with the characteristics of high efficiency and high quality. It has been widely applied in medical diagnosis and treatment, agricultural breeding, food processing, material modification, security inspection and other fields, and has become an important force driving the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries. According to the "Three-Year Action Plan for the High-Quality Development of the Nuclear Technology Application Industry (2024-2026)", by 2026, China's nuclear technology application industry will significantly improve its independent innovation capability, further expand its industrial fields, break through a number of key technologies, build a number of innovation platforms, cultivate a number of specialized, refined, differentiated and innovative enterprises, and strive to achieve an annual direct economic output value of 400 billion yuan.
The "Strengthening Action Plan" will focus on cultivating a "nuclear technology +" ecology and build four major industrial clusters in the Yangtze River Delta, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Chengdu-Chongqing in a "point-line-surface" model, promoting the integrated development of "nuclear technology + AI" and "nuclear technology + new materials". In the Yangtze River Delta, an isotope production base will be built relying on the Qinshan Nuclear Power Base; in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the focus will be on the development of intelligent security inspection technology; in the Chengdu-Chongqing region, the regional innovation capacity will be enhanced by utilizing local research reactor resources.
At present, China's nuclear technology application industry has formed a good pattern of multi-level and multi-chain coordinated development. Qinshan Nuclear Power has achieved mass production of cobalt-60, localization of carbon-14 supply and its first export overseas, supply of lutetium-177 to the market, and successful reactor output of yttrium-90 and strontium-89. In the future, it will continue to tackle the production processes of medical isotopes such as molybdenum-99 and iodine-131 to help the development of China's nuclear medical technology. In the field of new energy, industrial CT is used to detect micron-level defects of lithium batteries to reduce the risk of spontaneous combustion from the source; in the mineral processing field, it can improve the accuracy and utilization rate of ore separation; in the logistics field, it can realize rapid customs clearance inspection of goods. Industry insiders said that the cross-border application of nuclear technology is creating more new scenarios and injecting strong momentum into the construction of China's modern industrial system.
